Lauded as 'an ambitious, exciting, deeply important and timely film', The Destruction of Memory explores the war against culture, and the battle to save it.

Over the past century, cultural destruction has wrought catastrophic results across the globe, and has been steadily increasing. Based on a book by Robert Bevan, the film looks not just at ongoing events, but reveals the decisions of the past that allowed the issue to remain hidden in the shadows for so many years.

The Destruction of Memory draws together diverse narratives, including Kristallnacht and the Bosnian War, to current actions by Daesh (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq, and comes at a time of significant media attention on sites like Palmyra, as well as significant policy and legislative movements. 

The film features leading international experts, including the Director-General of UNESCO and the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, and is narrated by the Oscar™, BAFTA & Golden Globe nominated and Tony winning actress, Sophie Okonedo.
